A small timber A-frame with one large window, built for slow mornings among the pines.
A weekend cabin on a steep, wooded plot, designed to touch the ground lightly and to be quick to build.
The brief
A young family wanted a simple retreat with room for guests, a wood stove and a big view, at a modest cost.
The design
The A-frame form sheds rain and snow, and a glazed gable brings the forest inside. A sleeping loft sits above a compact living space, and a small deck extends the room outdoors in summer.
Materials and climate
A timber frame on concrete pads keeps disturbance to the site low. The cabin is clad in deodar, insulated well and heated by a single stove.
